Acceptance Use Policy for E-mail

E-mail provided by school is an official communication channel among staff and students at school. Proper use of e-mail will avoid waste of resources and enable proper communication with target recipients. Users should NOT use e-mails for the following purposes:

• conducting commercial functions, such as marketing or business transactions
• sending irrelevant or chain mails to a large number of recipients
• broadcasting messages which are obscene, violent or likely to harass, offend other users
• any communication which violates applicable laws and regulations

Protect yourself

• Secure your password and also make your password a bit longer and complicated by using a combination of numbers, character symbols and letters in upper and lower case for your password. (Example: Password: MST4hFhLw!).
• Don't reply if the message seems suspicious to you or click on a "remove" / "unsubscribe" link in a suspicious spam message. If you do it, you will receive more spam, because your e-mail address has been confirmed.
• Never visit websites advertised in a suspicious spam message, especially don’t click the links in such e-mails. They may take you to a different website other than the one showing in the e-mail. If you decide to visit a website that appears in a suspicious message, it's better to type the address in your web browser yourself.
• E-mail attachments may have software that could harm your computer or steal your personal information. Only open attachments in e-mails from someone you know. Always ensure your anti-virus software is enabled to scan any files / e-mail attachments you download from the Internet onto your computer.
• Don't try or buy any product or service advertised in an e-mail from a sender you don't know.
• Spam and phishing senders will try sending mails to mislead the recipient that the mails look like they come from people or organisations you know. If you are unsure, don't open it. Use an alternative method of contact to reach the sender.
